My nVIDA GeForce 2 MX card won't run 3D accelleration

It's kinda weird ... oh! I'm running Red Hat Linux, Psyche v8.0. I also just used the drivers that Red Hat probed and supplied, but it did probe the right driver for the card. The problem is that the 3D accelleration checkbox is ghosted, so I can't mess with it. Anybody know what's happening?

The drivers supplied with RH, MDK are 'generic'. For the full drivers you will need to go to the Nvidia website and follow the download instructions there. NVchooser.sh is a great tool for knowing which drivers you need.

I don't remember where I heard the noise from, but 3D acceleration is not yet supported on nVIDIA cards... I have the same card, and I wait till it is supported. One day it will be...
If the games are not vital, you will not really miss 3D acceleration.

Ok, so I'm at the site and trying to download the drivers, but I'm a but confused ... I'm at http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp and I select "Drivers", "GeForce and TNT", but what Linux version should I choose? There's Linux IA32, AMD64, and IA64 ... I don't even know what these numbers are.

All right. If you succeed with 3D, let us know. Good luck.

with the exact same card I recently got it to work under RH 8.0
I now have super fast graphics!!
just download the nvidia driver from their site,
and follow instruct's. just make sure before download that
you download the right driver for your kernel.
if your running ye' average pc get IA32.
if your kernel is not excatly 2.4.18-18 download the genric
rpm somewhere on the list.
good luck.

Great. I hope it works with kernel 2.4.19-16. Later I will try, but at this moment there are more serious troubles: office programs won't start smoothly.
