My mouse is very slow

Using ubuntu 7.10

My mouse is super fast when a new install is done, and when I adjust it the slider it goes as slow as possible. After that, the slider appears not to anything when I adjust it further as it stays on the slowest setting after I close the window.

Anyone have a similar problem? How do I "reset the mouse speed" in GNOME?
