I'm planning on using MSI K8NGM2-FID with ubuntu. I'm wondering if anyone has got this board to fully work and the network card to work with out using ndiswraper with ubuntu?
After much searching i can't seem to find a defintive answer on if the vitesse vsc8201rx which is used on the MSI K8NGM2-FID works with linux or not. if anyone on this forum has this board please post if you have it fully working under linux.
Ubuntu 6.06.1AM loaded with no issues on the SATA of my MSI K8NGM2-FID. I had issues with Suse 10.1 and my ethernet connection. Ubuntu has had little usage do to my lack of motivation. I did make a copy of one of the Grandkids new game CD's with Ubuntu.
The AMI BIOS on boot up of the K8NGM2-FID gave me a never before seen option. 'Press F11 for BBS Popup' which gave me a popup that allowed me to manually select the boot up hardware no matter what my BIOS might normally use. I thought if I could load my Linux OS on a SATA HD while having my XP IDE HD power disconnected, what a deal. The Grandkids could have the PC to play games as normal with XP and I could use it to play with Linux from time to time. It has worked so far. I have no fear of messing things up if I have to reload either OS.
