Angry movies are in dark colors

recently i converted linux by installing mandrake 9.1
everything is o.k except all my movies and pictures are shown in very dark colors.

can someone suggest remidy for this.

What's your video card? Can you turn up the contrast and brightness on your monitor?

my video card is Sis300 with 32MB SD ram.
i tried to adjust the contrast and brightness through moniter settings.but the adjustments made are showing no improvement in movies color.
