I had a similar problem with my Suse 9.3 mouse setup. One day (possibly after a kernel update) it just stopped working. The mouse would not move until I went into Yast -> Hardware -> Mouse Model and then accepted the configuration. I did not change anything, just accepted.
I ended up fixing the problem by going into Sax2 -> Input Devices -> Mouse and changing the Properties on my mouse's port. The port is now set to /dev/input/mice and everything appears to be fine. Before the port was either /dev/mouse or it was an empty field I don't recall which exactly. Maybe this will help in your case too.
Thanks for the tip dhorton. I had the same problem, and your fix worked for me as well (SuSE 9.3, usb mouse). Went into Sax2 -> Input Devices -> Mouse and changed from /dev/mouse to /dev/input/mice.

After these two last replies I finally had the guts to try the updates given by YOU again and voilą, no problems anymore! It seems that the kernel updates have been corrected, my mouse works perfectly and no incorrect paths in SaX2!
