Question Mouse Movement slow and erratic on screen

I have both a Typhoon and an Acer optical Mouse. I have tried both, but The mouse movement on the screen in both KDE and Gnome is terribly slow and at times erratic. I have tried other window managers as well such as IceWM. But the problem persists.

I have an AMD Athlon 1700+ XP and an MSI Motherboard with 128 MB DDR RAM. So the problem is not poor hardware.

Please help, as my family is reluctant to shift to Linux only for this reason.

do you have your mouse set up as usb or ps2? if it is usb connect the ps2 adapter and then do a mouseconfig at the terminal and select the first item which is ps2 and then reboot and it should work fine because for the heck of me i couldnt get my optical microsoft explorer to work with the usb so i did that and it works fine

I am using a PS/2 mouse (acer/typhoon). I found one post on computing.net that advises adjustment to the Pointer/Mouse Acceleration in KDE Control Center. I'll try that.

One more thing said there was to try out the emulate 3 buttons option. The poster said that it would speed up the mouse. Is this true?

The mouse is detected perfectly in the Install but it ias slow in response on the screen.
