motherboard beeps 3 times and my pc won't boot

Could it be the video card and not the memory? I remember when my video card slowly died with similar symptoms. Did you notice if any beeps are longer than others? IIRC, the beep code I experienced with the failing video card was 1 long, 2 short.

Hi dracolich, well, I don't think it's the video card as since I removed the memory stick, the machine has been working perfectly (and it wouldn't boot with this memory stick attached to the slot). Besides, I've played highly 3D, video-consuming games on windows and installed compiz on ubuntu, with no problems. As for the beeps, they were the same length (three short beeps) and the motherboard manual says this symptom (the 3 short beeps) are caused by memory problems.
