Monitor and Resolution
hi all
i have installed on my pc RedHat 8.0 and i'm using a Hewlett Packard SVGA 1024i 14" D2804B monitor.
despite the monitor supporting 1024x748 screen res, i'm unable to get this setting with RedHat.
i've searched for info on the monitor (ie the refresh rates) but to no avail. i've tried editing the monitor config but no luck here either.
anyone help?
sean

So X is working, but just not at the resolution you want, right?
The resolution you want is 1024x768, not 1024x748. Here is a bit of my screen section...
# **********************************************************************
# Screen sections
# **********************************************************************
# Any number of screen sections may be present. Each describes
# the configuration of a single screen. A single specific screen section
# may be specified from the X server command line with the "-screen"
# option.
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen 1"
Device "ATI Rage 128"
Monitor "My Monitor"
DefaultDepth 24
Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "640x480" "800x600" "1024x768" "1280x1024"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "640x480" "800x600" "1024x768" "1280x1024"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection

ooops, i meant 1024x768.
X is working only i cant get a higher resolution than 800x600.
i've tried editing the config by forcing it, but the display becomes garbled.
cheers

Sorry for the delay. I think it is just a matter of what the hardware (video card and monitor) can handle. You might be able to get 1024x768 by setting the Default Depth to 8 or 16.
