Modem problems
I have an ECS K7S5A motherboard that uses the SiS 735 shipset. The modem is integrated on an AMR. In FC 2, when I go to set up the modem to connect to the internet, the internet connection applet puts up an error dialog that says that it cannot detect a modem in my computer. Is my modem not supported or is FC 2 just broken?

Last night, I installed an external modem that uses USB for an interface. The modem is a ZOOM V.92 Fax/Modem with USB Model 3090. It is to my believing that USB runs through the serial bus. If this is so, then FC 2 should detect it. Instead, after I installed it and rebooted the computer, the output of /sbin/lspci remained unchanged.
Here is the output of /sbin/lsusb:
Code:

Help is much appreciated. The sooner I can get this fixed, the sooner I can get away from Windows and constantly rebooting.

I finally had enough with the stupid external USB modem, so it was returned to its home in the closet. I found the HSF driver from Linuxant and installed it. Everything is fine when I use the Network applet to activate the modem (/dev/ttySHSF0). I can access the web (at 14.4k) with Mozilla FireFox 0.8 just fine. Then I used KPPP to dial up and everything sounded like it should work. (Ahhh, those happy modem sounds.) However, when I went to load up a new page in FireFox, it gives me a message that it could not find the page. I tried many other pages, all with the same result. When I used the Network applet to activate the modem, the pages loaded just fine. Why isn't KPPP working? It is much more convienient than the Network applet.

Problem solved
While browsing the forums, I came upon this thread (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=186648) that answers my question. I was lucky enough that my ISP had a web page titled "Setting up Linux PPP" that gave all the changes to the config files that I needed to make. On top of that, it even gave the templates for a few shell scripts for connecting and disconnecting in the absence of a dialer, such as KPPP.
