Hello World:

My serial external modem was working fine after Redhat 8.0 installation. I was also trying to install external USB modem, in the process I installed this new modem on the port (/dev/input/ttyACM0) and deleted several times which didnot work. But the serial external modem was working alright until 2 days back.

Now, when I try to activate the serial external modem in the GUI, external modem lights blink for a while and the modem fails to activate. Deleting, installing a number of times, turning PC on & off (Windows habits die hard) has not helped.

The command wvdialconf create/update has also not worked. At least my serial external modem must work so that I can use the net.

In your KDE menu; Extras, Internet, KPPP Log Viewer
do you see any strange (or useful) messages?

And to add something...
most log messages will also go into /var/log/messages
