Microphone not working - FC6 on a X86_64 machine [HP Presario V3133AU]
Hi I have a Fedora core 6 installed on a AMD based [x86_64] HP Presario V3133AU laptop. When i test for the microphone using Skype client it gives me error, i.e. there is no sound captured by the card.
Some of the system output is represented below.

hi,
Did u enable record option and increased the input volume slider in volume control?
Kmix(kde mixer control) allows to boost the mic by 20db.Try enabling it.In the input tab enable both capture and mic using red and green radio buttons. And in switches tab, u will find mic boost 20db.
u can use rec command to record data to the system.
I have tried to enable everthing but it seems the system has not recognized the sound card well I guess and so the options I can play with are limited.
Nevertheless I have Master, PCM and also Capture at 100% in alsamixer. Still no capture through built-in microphone.
I dont know how to send a image in this post else would have sent you a snapshot.
Thank you very much for the tip. But I have been rebooting the laptop almost everyday since the last month or so. FC6 is my primary OS on the laptop. Everything else works perfectly except the microphone.
i have a plantronics dsp-usb headset and it works kinda' flakily in knoppix and rh-9.
i notice i have better luck with it when i boot-up with it.
does fc-6 still have kudzu ?
with redhat, when booting up the checking for new hardware step brings up kudzu and so i can configure/ load the driver there. but it disables my soundcard speakers...
i havent played with it more than that; i'll try different configurations and post if i have any luck.
