Mapping a mouse (Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000) button to an application.

Hi guys, I would like to know what should be done in order to allow this mouse to map onto an application. So far all my buttons are working correctly, except a small red button on the left. In Windows, it is supposed to act as magnifier. How to do that in GNU Ubuntu Hardy??

PS: I know in Firefox, it can be done by Ctrl ++ (Increase size) and Ctrl -- (Decrease size) and possible to use buttons in nautilus to magnify (Except Desktop, it is a problem unless one always clicked on the Desktop link located at Places-> Desktop) but sometimes, it I do not want to lose a feature / making the OS looked inferior in some sense.

Furthermore, not always there is a need to magnify the entire part, there maybe a need to magnify on a portion of it.

I have found that using xev, it give such code
Code:
ButtonRelease event, serial 540, synthetic NO, window 0x3a00001,
    root 0x49, subw 0x0, time 8025437, (162,169), root:(167,218),
    state 0x10, button 6, same_screen YES

Any help will be much appericated!

ussr,

Sorry I can't help you with your problem but I'd certainly appreciate if you could help me with mine. I posted my problem last week. Basically I can't get any buttons working on this mouse. All I get is vertical movement from the mouse pointer.

Is there any chance you could post the mouse configuration section of your xorg file so I can compare? It would be much appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

Robert

I don't know anything about Hardy, but Gnome has a "Screen Reader and Magnifier" which may do what you want. You might look into that. It's under "Accessibility" on my desktop. KDE probably has something similar.
