Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Mandrake 10.1 CD writer is not burning CD's

Hi All,

I use to have a triple boot PC with XP and W2000 and Linux Mandrake 9.0.
All my CD writing functions at that time were fine in Linux using mostly X-CD-Roast.

I have erased my Mandrake 9.0 installation and installed 10.1.
Since then I was not able to use my CD writer in Linux.
The programs available are X-CD-Roast, Nautilus and K3b.

The strange thing is that the messages I have from all three mentioned programs are that the CD is burned successfully (although nothing has been written to it).
The CD writer I use a is a Plextor 12x .
I was under the impression that something is wrong with the CD Writer and replaced it with an old one Philips 8x but the problem remained the same.
Windows programs are able to use both!!!
I hope the information I gave you are enough to understand what is happening.

I would appreciate any advice

Thank you

George
