Hey all, I couldn't find an "Apple Hardware" users section so I'm going to try here. I've installed Ubuntu MATE 15.10 on a Apple MacBook Air 6,1 (Mid-2013) model. I have everything working aside from getting the laptop to wake when it's been suspended / lid shut.
I had previously been running Xubuntu 14.10 and this was resolved by turning light locker off and on. Curious if there are any similar setups out there that can shed some light or give a little advice on how the MATE environment handles this? Currently I just have the laptop set to blank the screen when I shut the lid to avoid having to hard power off and on all the time.
Just to clarify further, if you open the lid and press the power button does the machine then resume as expected? I have read of reports that there is a bug that can cause the backlight level not to be restored, so the screen stays dark, but your description sounds different to this?
In any case, the following may be of interest to you
Is the computer working otherwise, can you ping it or reach by ssh when the screen is blank?
Do you have 2 video cards? What drivers do you have installed?
I see my lock screen quickly before the screen goes dark, it does not resume as expected. I had previously attempted that fix from the Ubuntu documentation. I can still ping the laptop, ssh in etc and hear error noises when I hit the 'delete' key or any other key in attempt to wake the laptop.
I only have one video card: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
I've posted in the Apple Hardware users as well, but no insight yet.
Actually, problem solved! It was a swap issue. I noticed in my fstab the swap entry was commented out. After a reboot, the encryption password entry appeared and I can now suspend!
Odd. It looked like my home folder encryption wasn't properly setup until I fixed my swap partition. Would that maybe have been the culprit as far as resuming?
Ah.. that opened another can of worms. Apparently there is an issue with encrypted home folders in Ubuntu 15.10, as I noticed after un-commenting the fstab line containing the swap I was prompted to enter my account password for every single software update, etc.
Or perhaps I'm better off avoiding an encrypted home folder and implementing something like ZuluCrypt? I'm curious if I would even need Swap space aside for Hibernating (though that option doesn't appear to be present in my power options menu).
