LIRC Packard Bell Serial Config

I have a Packard Bell serial controller, but I'm not exactly sure how to configure it...

I can't use mode2 because it says:

This program is only intended for receivers supporting the pulse/space layer. Note that this is no error, but this program simply makes no sense for your receiver.
How would I get this to work?

Slackware 9.1
Kernel 2.6.4
Fluxbox 0.9.8

I just upgraded to Kernel 2.6.5, just to let you know.

There has to be some way to determine if the kernel is getting the signals or not, does anyone know?
