Linux/KDE on TV monitor

hello folks,

i hope someone can help me with the following problem.
I wanted to switch the OS from Win Xp to Mandriva Linux for my living room PC. The PC is connected to a about 15 years old TV screen .
With WIN xp i had no issues getting the Screen to work but now with Linux as i switch to KDE the screen starts to flicker and to scramble.
I cant see anything , cant even shutdown.
I tried all the Monitor presets but nothing made it to work.
Theres now just the option to enter the H and Vsync manually.

someone here knows what values i have to enter there ?
I cant find any info on the net and i have no manual for the TV.

Thanks in advance for any help.

what graphics card are you using? Try setting the resolution to 640x480@60Hz.

Ati 9500 and i allready tried that resolution, doesnt work
I guess its the frequency that matters not the resolution.
Win XP worked fine with 1024 800 and 640.

Are you running in dual head mode, or only a TV? Is you're TV PAL, NTSC, or SECAM? Make sure you have the correct format set. You're using the TV-out on the card right, not some weird scan converter box? TVs are standard not like monitors, different syncs are not used.
