Linux Infrared

Has anybody had experience with the Leadtek TV2000 XP Expert? I'm looking at buying it for its infrared support, I was hoping to see if anybody had any information on it.

I saw the Deluxe is in the HCL, but they don't appear to be the same card and it would be my luck to go out and grab the Expert and have it completely void of any linux support. I don't care about the video quality, just the remote control -- I have svideo out and I watch a lot of anime, so it would be nice to control my anime from a nice comfortable place other than my computer chair

You're buying a TV card for the remote control function? Streamzap sell a remote + receiver package for cheap that works great with linux, I use it myself. I had a little more trouble setting up the remote that came with my TV card (DVICO). Read into that whatever you like

I will take a look, I didn't want to go the route of a TV card - I haven't had a whole lot of luck with them - but they are cheap (30 dollars). I didn't expect to find anything cheaper.

Many thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for, much better than the TV tuner remote

FAO cs-cam...

You say this works well under linux. Could you provide more details? I'm building a media centre running FC4 and 'Freevo' using Xine and mplayer to watch dvd's and avi's.

Can I progrma this remote control in linux to open a variety of programmes and completely control them using the remote control. I'm really hoping you say yes here, it would be fantastic.

Also could you point to details of where I could get all the knowledge of using this in linux (installation, button control)

Thanks

Lowebb

You use LIRC to manage everything about the remote. There is too much detail to go into for one post, read up on as much documentation for LIRC as you can (it's not much on the easy side) and then post with a specific question.
