It helps to see exactly what type of device you have. Now as far as your problem.... I couldn't find anything about your general problem online yet. I'm still looking... But for the time being, can you confirm that the LED works? Have you tried it within a different OS?

I think that camera is controlled by the gspca module, which should be loaded automatically when you plug the camera in.

Check for it with lsmod | grep gsp

If it is not loaded, load it with sudo modprobe gspca

Then install / run cheese and see if your camera is detected and working.

here's what i got

Code:
kaspersky@kaspersky:~$ lsmod | grep gsp
gspca_sonixj 25900 0
gspca_main 23676 1 gspca_sonixj
videodev 43098 1 gspca_main

and with the other command

Code:
kaspersky@kaspersky:~$ sudo modprobe gspca
[sudo] password for kaspersky:
FATAL: Module gspca not found.
so what's the problem with the cam led ???

The modules you need, gspca_sonixj and gspca_main, are loaded.

What happens when you open cheese?
For me, there's a 1sec pause, the camera light goes on, and then I see the video.

It's the same with webcamstudio I have to select the camera and then press Play before the light goes on, and the camera starts.

I do not understand: Do you mean you can see video, but it is dark, or that you can not see anything at all?

Which video program are you using to try to view the video?

Is there anything in your BIOS to enable / disable the camera?
