LCD monitor/Fedora Issue

It seems i am not able to simply swap my older Compaq CRT monitor with my Balance LCD monitor. The video card is the same, but the resolution on the monitor had been insanely high (the Compaq monitor was a 19" and the LCD is a 17") but it worked fine of course with the larger CRT monitor. now, about the point where it should boot to the login screen, the monitor goes black with the (i'm pretty sure monitor-specific) message "signal frequency is out of range, please change signal timing". i was hoping that kudzu would kick in when rebooting, but i haven't had that happen yet. Can anyone help?

I suppose I should mention that the kernel version is whichever is the latest version. I had my last and latest round of updates about 2 days ago and I believe that did include a kernel update.

I'm no expert, but I'd take a guess that the refresh rate is set too high for your new monitor (having recently changed my CRT for an LCD on FC3 I'm confident it's not a software issue).

Are you able to connect your CRT monitor again and get it to work - if so, set the refresh rate to something conservative like 75Hz (or even 60, if you want to be really sure) and see if the LCD works then. Set the resolution conservatively as well - you can always tweak them upwards for peak performence once you have the LCD working.

Mike.
