Question Laptop screen ... DIES

Sometimes, when logging out of X, the screen fades out (slooowly) to a purplish-off color... I can still type (at the invisible Linux console). If I enter X and exit again, the same thing happens. If I reboot, it "fixes" the problem.

Has anyone had this experience, or, know how to fix it?

I'm using a new Slackware installation on my laptop - Fujitsu Lifebook P2040. I was using Mandrake, and never had this problem...

One guess I have is that is that if about how I compiled many power management settings into the kernel. If I leave my computer long enough for power saving mode to kick in, maybe it doesn't cleanly get back out of it...

What do you think?

...I thought all the power management stuff was important, to control the Crusoe processor...

...or maybe it's something else... -thanks!

are you using a frame buffer?

maybe seting vga=733 or some other setting in lilo.conf or removing it if it's there will help

The problem is because of APM Bios support.

By turning off Advanced Power Management BIOS support, but leaving all ACPI Bus Manager things compiled into the kernel, I am able to completely power off my laptop AND not have the screen glitch.

Problem solved. Thanks!

...Hope this helps someone in the future... -_-*
