Kubuntu 5.10, Soundblaster Live 24 bit - no sound
I've been pretty impressed with Kubuntu, and so replaced my Mandrake 10.1 installation with Kubuntu 5.10. Unfortunately, no sound! This seems to be a common Kubuntu (maybe also Ubuntu) problem. I've posted to the two Kubuntu forums (dedicated Kubuntu forum and Kubuntu forum on the Ubuntu forum site), and have looked into quite a few potential solutions, but still no sound. I have verified that the SB is recognized, but Kubuntu continues to appear to boot the onboard sound, which I have disabled in BIOS. One reply suggested that I put the onboard driver on the blacklist, but while I found that, they gave no direction on syntax for a new entry for the onboard sound. I have searched this forum and read the results, but found no new suggestions. Since I am new to this forum, the rules prevent me from including URLs, so the ones shown below are incomplete. Copy/paste and add the http: in front of each. The relevant thread on the Ubuntu forum is at...

On the Kubuntu forum, my I reposted twice following the original post, to two different forums when there were no replies after a resonable length of time. The most recent was in the Hardware forum and is at the folllowing URL, but there have still been no replies.

It's hard to believe that what appears to be a common problem isn't better known, and that there has been no fix for it. Sound problems seem to be common over many distributions for folks who aren't very experienced with Linux, or at least with other operating systems.
Having exhausted those obvious resources with no solution, I'm now trying smaller boards - this one, GRC (no replies yet) and my local Linux users group (no replies yet).
If anybody has any insight into this issue, I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks!
