Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

ISP Modems Hidden Area

I never new they did this. but some modems, such as Arris, have an advanced area that requires a password of the day. While I am not paranoid I really don't like having something on, in or connected to my computer that I can't see or know what it is really for. Especially in this day and age (again, not paranoid, I just like to be cautious and informed). Anyone ever run across anything like this or have any info? Also the wireless modem is an Arris DG860A.

I am surprised no one has heard of this or knows what is what. If I find out anymore I will post it here for those in the future that may look or would like to know.

There are almost limitless ways an ISP could access their products. Generally for support but could be abused. Same thing with phones.

I can understand support. However the way things are I have very little to no trust right now. Sad how the state of things are these days. When something is hidden like that it raises red flags with me. I have to know what is going on with this. If it is simple support than I can live with that. If not, well...
