intel onboard sound support

Hey All,

I understand the new version of Suse is due for release sometime in the next few days. I just put together my new computer with an Intel D945GNTLR Mainboard Pentium 4 featuring Intel® High Definition Audio; SigmaTel STAC9223. At the moment im running Suse 9.2 professional. Also, at the moment my sound card is NOT recognized by yast, and I cant even manually select it. The question I am asking is this: Will my soundcard be supported by the new release of Suse linux so that when I update my computer will feature sound again? Or do I need to start looking for a new distribution of linux? Can anyone recommend an alternat distro that supports my sound card? Sound is VERY important to me. I have had so myny problems trying to get my Suse to work on my machine that I am almost inclined to find a different distribution anyway...
So, what do the experts say? Is Suse 10 going to support the Intel® High Definition Audio; SigmaTel STAC9223 sound card? Alternate distros that will?

Thanks for interest and replies!

Brian

Firstly, let me say something. X distribution doesn't support the Y card. It is the kernel that the X distribution contain that support it.
What i mean is that the kernel that Suse 9.2 has is old and doesn't have support for your card. A newer kernel will do.
As a matter of fact, your card has support for a while now.

I quote from the kernel source
Code:
/*
 * Universal Interface for Intel High Definition Audio Codec
 *
 * HD audio interface patch for SigmaTel STAC92xx
I think that the support for your card was included in 2.6.13 kernel.
So if you use anything newer than 2.6.13 you will be ok.

You have two solutions.
1) You can compile your kernel on your own and keep Suse 9.2
2) You can upgrade to a newer Suse version that contains 2.6.13 kernel.

I believe that any distro need to be tailored to ones needs, so even if you change distro you will need some time to tailor it.
If this thread gets 1000 posts you will get replies for every distro that exists )
Everyone will say "I use X distro and i am very happy"

If you want a distro that is very easy point and click like Suse (windblows like) then Fedora, Mandriva are choices.
I use (what did i tell you) Slackware,Debian. They are not so easy but not as difficult as some people say.
If you want a distro that has only what you want to install and not a hundred useless programs and does 5 minutes to boot, then
you should try one of them.
They are very good distros and maybe the most stable linux distributions.
They don't have all the fancy yast/etc things that Suse has but they are good.

There are other very good distros i didn't mention. If you search these forums you will find hundreds posts named "X VS Y"

Thanks imitheos, i will try to upgrade to a newer version of suse...i like the layout quite a bit---if i could only get my network to work...i would upgrade immediately! I guess i like the fact that for me (somewhere between computer literate and competent) it will be a good step from windows...

Thanks again!
