Intel 2200 b/g Suse 10.1....HELP!

Hey,
Sorry to admit it, but im a linux n00b. Ive wanted to delve into it for a while but low and behold...there are teething issues! Ive spent the past 4 hours (sad i no...but funny what happens when you become addicted...) trying to configure my damn Intel 2200 b/g Wifi card on my suse 10.1 box!

I had another linux distro (i believe it was Debian...) which seemed to work fine with it...all i needed to do was pop in the network key and away i went. But Suse is proving a little harder....

I have the Knetworkmanager running which says im not connected...ok fine...i right click and under "options" it gives me the option to disable my wireless. Also, when i go to the YaST network card configurer, it picks up my card just fine....right name and everything!

So, i really am a bit lost! It seems to be picking up my card, but it won't pick up any networks. I even installed KWiFi manager and scanned for networks but nope...doesn't pick up anything!

Seriously, any suggestions would be great because im ' ' this close to throwing my laptop on the floor

Please....help!?

Cheers

p.s. meant to say...when i run iwconfig it says :-

lo no wireless extentions
eth0 no wireless extentions
sit0 no wireless extentions

Intel 2200 needs firmware loaded before the card will work.

I have installed the firmware ipw-firmware that Suse 10.1 requests. If i go to hardware config it picks up the card and everything just fine. All the info about the card is there. Its just network scanners say that they cant pick up any wireless networks. i rele am stuck as what to do....

Ok, based on your first post, this quote is telling me that you have no wireless interfaces:

Quote:

lo no wireless extentions
eth0 no wireless extentions
sit0 no wireless extentions
Try this from a console:

Code:
ifconfig -a
I'm not sure which device the IPW2200BG is mapped too, but mine always goes to /dev/eth1 under Gentoo LiveCD.

Then...

Code:
ifconfig device name up
That will enable to the device

Then...

Code:
iwconfig
You should now see the same list as you posted earlier, but one more device should show up.

Scott
