Installing new intel drivers MAJOR PROBLEM!

Ok I wanted to get more FPS out of my games (especialy counter-strike) with my intel extreme grpahics 2 (i865). Now when i wen't to intel.com, i was givin the choice of an rpm package and a tar.gz package. I chose the RPM. Now, it told me to shutdown X server. Ok thats one of my question how the hell do u shut down x server. I though that shutting down xserver was ctrl. + Alt. F4, but i just did it through X and it just said that if i did it this way, all u would have to do is restart x, ok, and i typed 'rpm -Uvh <name of package>.rpm, i gave me an error, about can't open deb format.(?, random) but when i did it again it said it was already installed. so done. now it said shut down xserver(?I think was ctrl. + Alt. + F) and type 'Xconfigurator' EXACTLY like that, and i did but it told no such command. (F***!!!) I can't get back my old graphics exelerator without re-installing redhat! I try to probe and configure my graphics but it keeps saying that dri is missing! Can someone tell me what im doing wrong or >AT LEAST< tell me how to get back my graphics exceleration, 'cause this is a pile of bullshit to go through, just to play games at a descent rate. thanx in advance!
