installing LAN and USB driver on new motherboard

i have just got a new motherboard Asus P5V800-MX, and as opposed to my old motherboard hardly anything is detected when i install linux: USB ports, sound card, network card.

now on the motherboard CD, there are linux drivers for the audio and network card but not the USB drivers.

i've tried to install the network card by following the README file but i got stuck at this step:

------------------------------------
Compile the driver source files and it will generate rhinefet.o, and copy it to correct driver installation path :
make install
------------------------------------

it's telling me to do that after i have unziped the files to the hard disk. but when i try to type: ./configure or make or make install none of those commands work.

these are the files in the folder:

kcompat.h
Makefile
rhine.h
rhine_cfg.h
rhine_main.c
rhine_proc.c
rhine_proc.h
rhine_wol.c
rhine_wol.h

and the second question is that i don't know how to install the USB ports drivers as there is no driver on the motherboard CD for it.

I'm using Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy but i've tried with a few different distributions and the detection is the same.

thank you

From a quick google, it looks like your motherboard isn't supported very well below kernel 2.6.15-13. Try installing the testing Ubuntu Drapper Drake and see if that works for you, or download and build a newer kernel...

Here's the link I googled: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=119361
