Installed nvidia drivers.. now screen looks like a meltdown on shutdown.

i just installed the nvidia drivers on my laptop (running slackware 9.1). the install went very smoothly. I noticed a great improvement with my screen resolution and can run "gears". anyway, when i shutdown my display looks like it is going through a meltdown. there are vertical colored stripes and then the meltdown begins to happen. i can't see any text. has anyone experienced this. it doesn't seem to hurt anything, but i cannot see any shutdown text and i have to wait a while to "guess" when to press the off button on my laptop. btw, its starts up just fine.
