installation of Dell MD3000 on CentOS 5.5

I'm trying to install a Dell MD3000 with a SAS5/e controller card connected to a Dell R810 running CentOS 5.5. I've googled every possible phrase I can think of to try to figure this out and I'm not getting anything but frustrated. As of right now, all that's showing up is a 20MB drive instead of 5TB. I've been following the steps off their resource CD but the documentation kind of sucks and Dell only supports RHEL so I can't get any help from them. Is there any documentation out there that shows how to do this or can anyone offer advice?

Wait...I dont get it...do I read this right? You're trying to install CentOS on box A with the install on box B?

If that's the plan, dont. Get your fav distro (anything) and toast a disc. Install from that. A netinstall is possible, but the install medium (CD, DVD, ISO-on-disk) must be around, and you still need to start up the target box with a CD...

Reading this thread on, with care...

I'll clarify. I'm trying to get the multi-threading working on the md3000. I have a dell r810 server currently running centos 5.5. I have attached the dell powervault storage md3000 via a SAS5/e card and I'm having trouble getting centos to see the LUN. Right now, lspci is not even showing the SAS5/e card.

...I understand that the 5.5 has multi lun support in the stock kernel...so, maybe a look-see in the /boot/config[number-number] to look for somethng hinting to multi and/or lun, and see what it's set to?

I hope iSCSI is installed, but, hey, you know this...

My SAN experience is somewhat scetchy, I may not be able to help...that's the main reason I may not have understood where you wanted to go...

But, I'm willing to learn from ANYone hopping on...

Thanks for the help. And yeah, we're in the same boat. My SAN experience is weak at best... I'm muddling through.

Hi,

Sorry for the tardyness...I had to find sqome stuff on this...
I just "googled" around...I dont have the setup here to build one (a SAN that is) and "click" you tru this...okay, some links I've found...

http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-build-a-low-cost-san
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/rhel-c...csi-howto.html
(nixcraft is one of the most clear, to me)
and
http://www.php2s.com/linux/howto-set...hat-linux.html

Lemme look tru these as well, maybe setting up a SAN is not within my (financial) range...but I could try to think along...

Best of luck

Thor
