improve scsi hd performance?

hi all,

hdparm -Tt gives the following:

/dev/sda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.37 seconds =345.95 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.12 seconds = 57.14 MB/sec

my redhat 2.4.22 box has the following relavent hardware:
seagate cheetah ST318453LW X15.3
adaptec 2940u2w
athlon XP2000
asus A7V333 MB

aside from upgrading the SCSI controller, is there anything that should be done to do to optimize SCSI HD throughput similar to hdparm for IDE? secondly, would compiling the SCSI driver into the kernel significantly improve performance compared to loading as a module, which is the current configuration?

thx if anything, - bp

Loading the scsi driver as a module is a one time event in either case. It probably loads a hair faster as part of the kernel than as a module.

i temporarily substituted the 2940u2w (80 MB/s LVD) with a 19160 (160 MB/s LVD) and hdparm yielded the same value for disk reads. a 15% improvement was observed for cache reads. for a 32-bit PCI bus, it appears u160 SCSI is unnecessary with a single drive on the LVD chain (tested with a seagate ST318453LW).

thx for the reply jailbait, i didn't recompile the kernel as per your suggestion.
