ide cd rom burner

I've been trying to get a cdrom burner working and I've been reading some howto's and threads on this forum.

My cdrom is at /dev/hdc

I have 2 questions:

I use grub instead of lilo so will append="hdc=ide-scsi" still work?

Also, with the command:
cd /dev && rm cdrom && ln -s scd0 cdrom
do I need to change cdrom to hdc? I get a little worried when it prompts me to remove one of my block devices.

the append won't work, no. you just add it directly into the boot command itself.
