IBM Laptop 600E CMOS Configuration
I ran across something very useful to me. Perhaps it will be useful to others. Specifically, my trackpoint stopped working, and the machine would a) not boot past the 8611/8613 error or b) would boot, but I would have to struggle constantly to use an external mouse as the trackpoint interfered continuously.
Here is the solution that worked (Taken from elsewhere on the internet):
1. On boot failure, proceed to the testing screen in the hardware BIOS section. This will happen normally if you don't power off. If you have set a supervisor password, use it rather than the user password.
2. Do what you must to "select" "config"
3. (The MAGIC!) Press CTRL-D
4. Now you want to edit one of the bytes to turn off the trackpoint. It will be at 20H which is in column 1, row 3. It will be showing 00. Set it to 01.
5. You're done. Press F2 then F3 as instructed at the bottom to exit the page and save your changes.
6. Exit out of the BIOS setup program nicely, and restart your machine.
You now have no trackpoint. You must mouse with an external mouse.
Disclamer: This worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, perhaps you will want to continue the thread with your results.
Hope This Helps--Jim (jameshofmann@montana.com)
