HP Pavilion and Fedora Core bad match?

I have a HP Pavilion 2.6MZ 120 GB hd, sound card, etc. But when I partition my hd and install Fedora Core on the second partition I start losing systems. First the CD-Rom then the sound system. Those don't work in Windows or Fedora. On another generic PC with two physical hard drives everything works fine. Any hope of getting the HP to live with windows and Fedora??

Hewlett packard is trying to make their systems easier to use, unless you special order them. My computer, the a300n, is pretty bad, and HP's are hetting more basic every day. Anyway, it probably isn't compatible, I've learned from my purchase that in 3 years, anything but a hp for linux sake.

Although, your problem may be natural, as in cables falling inside the system. I really wouldn't know, I'm no expert, I hardly even know what I'm talking about now. If you can, though, do a full system recovery, and then I'd say you have two options; get a new hard drive, or put it on the recovery drive. But once again, I'm no expert, don't do anything unless someone else says its a good idea (as in, for what I have said.).

What version of Fedora is it?

What kernel are you on?

Are you logged in as user or root ?

Are you following the howto for GRUB?

What are the settings in /etc/fstab ?

type and post the outputs to the forum....

uname -a

lspci

cat /proc/interrupts

lsmod

dmesg
