This printer REQUIRES a downloadable driver plug-in, which is required to enable print, fax or scan support. Use hp-setup to install the printer, and to download and install the plug-in. Driver plug-ins are released under a proprietary (non-open) license and are not part of the HPLIP tarball release.
Hi, thanks for your reply.
I'm using Linux Mint and yes when i check in "software manager" I can see that hplip is installed (version 3.14.3-0ubuntu3.2).

Hi...
Welcome to the forum
You didn't mention if you installed the plug-in. This is important. If you haven't, please follow the instructions here.
Also, if you haven't already, another useful package to install is "hplip-gui," which you can find here or in the Synaptic package manager.
Let us know how it goes...
Regards...

Ok, first of all thanks to everyone..
I followed your instructions and what I get after clicking on "next" at step where i am asked to download and install the plug-in, is an error message on terminal that says that the attempt to install a binary driver has failed
Actually the first error message says that there is not internet connection (which is fine) and when I try a second time he just says that the installation of the binary driver has failed.
I have also tried to download the plug-in and browse it but the fields become yellow and doesn't allow me to continue.
I'm stuck. I have tried several times but I always get the same result.

Hi...
Try ferrari's command above. If this does not work, please post the contents of the error message. Also, how are you connected to the internet, assuming a connection has been established?
yes internet is working fine, I have tested it many times.
so I have tried with:
sudo hp-plugin -i
but I got the same message.
I then tried with "dpkg -l hplip" (it check if I hplip is installed, correct?)
and then (being hplip already installed) I run "rpm -qa hplip". The terminal said that program RPM was not installed so I did it with "sudo apt-get install rpm".
I run once again "rpm -qa hplip" and then again "hp-setup". The first time again same error message but the second time it finally finalised the installation!!
So far it seems working
Thanks a lot for your help! one question, was the problem due to the fact that RPM program was not installed? what does RPM does?
one question, was the problem due to the fact that RPM program was not installed? what does RPM does?
Hi...
You're welcome, so your printer works as it should now?
RPM is a file format that was originally used by Red Hat Linux. It's used as a means to install packages (or software.) Since Mint is Debian based and uses a program like dpkg to open and install .deb files (another file format,) and does not use RPM by default, a program is needed to open and install RPM files, hence your installation of "RPM." I hope that makes sense.
