HP LaserJet achward behvior

HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fn (black toner cartridge as it's a black laserjet)

Odd behavior:

1) Printer stopped printing pages with any ink

2) replaced toner cartridge and printer then prints blotches all the way down the left side

3) Rocked new toner cartridge, slowly, left and right several times as google told me to try

4) Put the first toner cartridge back in and now printer will print flawlessly

I haven't tried putting the new toner back in and seeing what happens

Hmmm.....

Addendum: I suppose it would be too messy of a job to attempt to drain the ink out of the new cartridge & into the old cartridge....

Did you use an HP cartridge or a refurbished "refilled" one? The PC (Photo conductive) drum in refurbished cartridges is usually not replaced, any marks on the drum will cause blotches/marks. Are the blotches repeatable down the side of the print? If so, the drum's contaminated, don't touch it as the selenium coating is carcinogenic!

There is no "ink" in a toner cartridge it's a fine resin dust which sticks to the paper electrostatically before it's fused to the paper by a hot teflon coated roller heated by a halogen lamp or a teflon film cylinder surrounding a ceramic heater. Having worked on commercial High Speed IBM laser printers used to print utility bills from a roll of paper, getting the toner dust on your hands, clothes etc, is not something you want. It takes about a week to get your hands clean!

Play Bonny!

I think there's a cleaning option in the printer's menu.
