Howto for best dual core performance???

I've been using linux for quite a while, I just installed ubuntu on a core 2 duo laptop. I was wondering, does anybody have a link to a good howto to optimize ubuntu for SMP and dual core I was looking, and one CPU was at 60% while the other was at 5, this might just be the way way it is with few multithread programs, but does anyone have tips?

Thanks!

You can trim off a few seconds from your boot by opening up "/etc/init.d/rc" as root and changing "CONCURRENCY=none" to "CONCURRENCY=shell". It takes advantage of dual core processors.

How are you monitoring your CPU's performances? I have a T60 with dual processor and I believe my Ubuntu is running SMP.

That's the way it is - and it much more efficient to run a non-threaded CPU hog on the one "engine" rather than flip-flop between the 2 (or more).
Pipeline/TLB/cache flushing is real expensive.

If you have workloads to sensibly use more than one engine evenly, the scheduler will accommodate.
Don't worry about it - you'll probably notice changes over time depending on what the machine is doing at the time.
