How to force monitor to display vertically instead of horizontally? [SOLVED]

Hello...

I have an HP L1940T 19" monitor being used with an HP XE4500 laptop which is designed to be used in the traditional horizontal format but also vertically. This feature is supported by the drivers for Windows but appears not to be implemented for Linux.

I am curious to find out however if there is any way of getting Linux to display vertically (essentially using monitor onto its side) on this monitor (or any for that fact) instead of horizontally.

I have included the output of lspci, lshw, as well as the contents of the xorg.conf file below

Many thanks for reading.

Thanks for the reply....

When I tried this I got the following:

jamie@xe4500:~$ xrandr -o left
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 2 (RRSetScreenConfig)
Serial number of failed request: 12
Current serial number in output stream: 12

In the interim I will go and see what I can learn about xrandr.

Solved!!!

It seems the above suggestion of typing:

Quote:
xrandr -o left
was bang on.

For this instruction to work however, the following line must be added to the "Device" section of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file for monitor to be rotated.

Quote:
Section "Device"
Identifier "VGA-OUT_GeForce_8400_GS"
Driver "nvidia"
Busid "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "RandRRotation" "True"
Option "UseEDID" "False"
Screen 0
EndSection
Once this is done restart the X Server and issue the command:

Quote:
xrandr -o left
and it works perfectly.

Thanks for the help.
