How to discover the memory clock speed


Hi,

I am planning to buy more memory for my notebook. I know the memory is DDR2, but I do not know if it is 800 or 667.

Does anyone knows a command to discover about the memory clock?

The fastest way is probably to go to a memory site (e.g. crucial.com) with the make and model number of your computer and let them tell you.

You could use dmidecode. It is probably not installed by default. You should be able to install it from your distribution's package repository.

You should run dmidecode under the root account. My dmidecode listed the memory controller with supported speeds of 70 ns and 60 ns. It also listed the memory modules with speed listed as unknown. That shows that dmidecode can only show you what your motherboard is willing to show you.

I had better luck using lshw under the root account. The board clock speed was listed under CPU information.
