How do I migrate windows from drive to new sata drive
Can anyone let me know how I can copy my windows partition to my new 250 gb S.ATA drive, (that by the way MDK recognised first throw) I have partition magic installed on my m$ system, I can see the new drive, I can format the drive and partition, but it will not copy as this takes a reboot, when it does the partition magic starts as normal at boot but then halts as though complete and no action has been taken.
I have an MSI K8T Neo with onboard S.ATA VT8237 controller, I have a regular 80gb drive in the regular drive connector and the S.ATA drive in the S.ATA connector, is this correct or do I need some sort of cable to connect both the regular and S.ATA together or does it not work like this.
I would just reinstall the m$ but it is win98 with xp upgrade and the 98 disk does not recognise the S.ATA drive for some reason, is there anyway to make this happen.?
drive image (a product from the same company as partition magic) might do you some good. i have a "free" copy but i think power quest has some trial licenses for their products.
Thanks sporadic235, any idea where I can get a copy of drive image, I trawled the site also tucows etc, but no joy. Is the idea I would make a complete system back up then restore to the new drive..?
that's precisely the idea. try htttp://www.caiqing.net for the software. i got my free copy from that site but i can not guarantee that they still have it there. one more thing annoying about the site is it's chinese. but when you see a text field and a button, i'm pretty sure it's for searching the site. you can also take other free stuff from there.
