Having difficulty locating a powerful laptop with a 1366x768 15.6'' display or similar. Has to have similar dots per inch because small fonts are too hard for me to read in higher resolutions and running a high-resolution lcd at lower definition spoils the cleartype effect and fuzzies everything in an unpleasant way.

Where can a laptop with a powerful CPU and fast SSD and about 8-16Gb of RAM be found, under this approximate constraint of 1366x768, 15.6''?

Ideally one with a display that does not flicker to reduce brightness (ie instead of pwm the leds are fed dc current lowered to reduce brightness)?

Even better, an anti-glare display?

Do online selectors exist with such parameters?

Price range?

Up to $2000.

I've had nothing but good luck at both work and home with higher end Dells, I carry a 2008 Latitude e6500 daily and have for a number of years.

American in Germany earning in dollars, I buy very little from the UK because of the exchange rate.

1920x1080 shouldnt be an issue, just change the display DPI settings. That will give you bigger fonts etc. with larger native resolutions.

You can try newegg. Its not perfect, and it could be missing lots of models, but it works to some degree.

Lots of 'base' models to choose from, and at least some of them are customisable (including 'no OS' so you dont have to pay for windows if you dont want it). Maybe Novatech Elite N1585? Or Novatech nSpire N1581? Pity about the 'optimus' setup on the N1581 but you cant have everything.

Have to use windows too. In XP messing with the dpi was a bad idea because dialog boxes did not grow to accommodate the larger fonts. Maybe this applies to current windows, and linux too. It may be an issue with the application and not the operating system's fault. Some web sites have a similar issue if you enlarge the font under the browser preferences.

So at 15.6'' it seems there is no way out yet from the 1366x768 limitation for me.

IIRC is was possible to fix the 'too small dialog boxes' issue when you changed the DPI in XP.

Far too many 'maybes' in there, its not 2002 anymore, and changing the DPI settings should work well with any current windows. Should work well with linux as well.

Looking for a 'top end' laptop in 15.6'' with 1366x768 is like loking for a luxury car with a V8/V10/V12 and leather seats but no aircon....it might be possible, but you'll spend a long time looking and probably end up having to do a custom setup anyway....
