Unhappy Help with non-working mouse

Well, I just installed my first copy of linux ( ) had a problem with GRUB, fixed it, then tried to solve another problem, and failed horribly.

My mouse won't work. It worked during install, and in text mode, but it won't work in the GUI (x is what it's called right?).

I tried typing xf86config in text mode, but it said it was a bad command.

I'm running a dual boot of Windows XP home and Fedora Core 1 x86. My mouse works fine in windows. It's a crappy Dell mouse made by logitech that came with my computer.

[EDIT: almost forgot, the pointer sits in the center of the screen and won't move, and linux isn't locked up, I can still do some stuff with my keyboard.]

your x86config command is correct. Try logon as root:

su <enter>
password <enter>

xf86config
or
xorgconfig

You can also manually view and edit the file:

cat /etc/X11/XF86Config | more
to edit the file:
emacs /etc/X11/Xf86Config

Check under Section "InputDevice" for the mouse type and driver. Try a standard driver:
Driver "mouse"

Good Luck

When I use 'su' as my user name, it says login incorrect. However, I tried the commands as root and my account.

>xf86config
>or
>xorgconfig

Nope, neither works.

cat says 'file not found' emacs opens blank. I only tried this as root.

Thanks.

sorry about the su command, forgot, you had not logged in yet. root login is correct...

Not sure why you can't open those files... If X is installed you should at least have an XF86Config
file... It is case sensitive. Try this:

/usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config
/usr/X11R6/bin/xorgconfig

locate XF56Config
locate xorg.conf

Not sure what config file FC1 uses but you should have one of them...

I do believe that X Windows is installed.

>/usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config
>/usr/X11R6/bin/xorgconfig

>locate XF56Config
>locate xorg.conf

Tryed all of the above, found nothing, tried it in UPPERCASE, lowercase, and RaNDoMcaSe (I was bored).

I'll look it up.
[EDIT: Didn't find anything]

Did you say the mouse froze after you started X services...
try:
startx

I'm thinking X-Windws System not installed.

Angry

login

startx <enter>

Code:
Fatal server error
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running remove /tmp/X0-lock and start again
So, I guess X is already running?

[EDIT: I guess, the mouse won't move at any time when I boot into Fedora, exept when I switch to text mode (with shift-alt-ctrl-f1).]
