(help) pcmcia USR997901 ethernet card

hello,
i'm trying to install this "USR 7901 10/100" card onto an older laptop, with Mandrake-Linux 8.2 and Ubuntu warty ( chosen just because the CD's were nearby ), without any sucess whatsoever.

now running kernel 2.4.18-6mdk

Mandrake hardware identification has assigned the module cs89x0 ( Cirrus Logic ?!? ) to the card, but just wont load the module
(
init module: no such device or address
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
)

# cardctl ident
Socket 0:
product info: "U.S. Robotics", "10/100 PCMCIA NIC TX", ""
manfid: 0x01bf, 0xc328
function: 6 (network)

ifconfig does not find the eth0 device ( obviously, without the module running ) but the card works flawlessy on Windows 2000 professional, using IRQ 7 and IO 0xDFE0 - 0xDFFF ( meaning it's not a problem on the Cardbus slot or the card itself, just a drivers' nightmare )

and i can't find any ( useful ) reference to this piece of hardware with Linux anywhere on Google neither on the USRobotic's site... and i simply do *not have network* on that machine until this is solved...

any help would be most appreciated !
thanks in advance !!!

update: i've found this README inside the Windows' Drivers zipfile, followed itens 4-5 and still doesn't work:

and uncompress it:
tar zxvf pcmcia-cs-3.1.29.tar.gz

3. Config the pcmcia package
Change the directory into pcmcia
cd pcmcia-cs-3.1.29
then config and install it
make config
make install

4. Edit the /etc/pcmcia/config
Add following to the config file
device "U.S. Robotics 10/100 PCMCIA NIC TX"
class "network" module "pcnet_cs"

please add the following configuration:
card "U.S. Robotics 10/100 PCMCIA NIC TX"
version "U.S. Robotics" , "10/100 PCMCIA NIC TX", "0", "0"
bind "pcnet_cs"

5. Restart the pcmcia service
/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart
Then the U.S. Robotics 10/100 PCMCIA NIC TX adapter will start to work.
