its been a while since install, but i havent used my cd drive for anything. now that i want to, i realised that it isnt recognised. i have tried manually mounting it, with no success. its really important that i get it working. PLEASE HELP!!!
it is a Lite-On LH20A1P if it helps. using RHEL 4.5
Do you have a data CD actually loaded into the drive when you try to mount it? You can't mount an empty CD drive or an audio CD. What commands are you running when you try to mount?
You may simply be mounting incorrectly. Bear in mind that a few things have changed since the unified libata driver was introduced. Many cd/dvd drives are now designated by scd instead of hd. Of course, if you're still using a 2.6.20- kernel, that wouldn't be the case.
I ran into a similar issue a few months ago and was able to find the correct device by running the lshw command (which, I believe, needs to be installed first).
