hda timeout error

Hey everyone,

This is my first post, so please be patient if I am doing something wrong - and thank you in advance

So I setup a mini-ITX box using Slack 10 as an mp3 server. Mostly everything works, except I notice that occasionally, my mp3s halt while playing and my system just freezes. I took a look at syslog and this is what I found:

Jan 7 11:33:25 ViaMMC kernel: hda: status error: status=0x00 { }
Jan 7 11:33:25 ViaMMC kernel:
Jan 7 11:33:25 ViaMMC kernel: hda: drive not ready for command
Jan 7 11:33:45 ViaMMC kernel: hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x21
Jan 7 11:33:55 ViaMMC kernel: hda: error waiting for DMA
Jan 7 11:33:55 ViaMMC kernel: hda: dma timeout retry: status=0x00 { }
Jan 7 11:33:55 ViaMMC kernel:

Output of lspci:

I think that should cover most of the relevant info I was thinking doing a bad-block check, but I already ran one two nites ago, so I doubt that's it. Thanks,

I'm sorry, but i don't know how you enable or disable it... but i know it's possible. Try google, maybe ??

I'm in the same boat. I think I have seen others use the "hdparam" command, but I have been unable to find more information about it.

When I had that problem, it turned out to be the hard drive data cable had a loose connection. I didn't happen much at first but it got worse to the point where I had to issolate the problem. New cable worked for me.
