HD problem in FC4 [HELP] !!!

Hi ! i'm having problems with my laptop FC4 it is refusing to make my Hard disk writable...
the problem begun when i turn off the laptop ... well the hard way ( i know it's bad, but i was sleepy and ... you know) so... the next time i turn on the laptop it started to report errors ... and i had to do a fsck ... said yes to all fixes and i thought it would be ok... but NOT! it reboted ok not a single error and i am happy... at graphical login i typed user and pass and.... "gdm could not start blah blah blah ... file systems is NOT writable ... "
i can't write anything to the disk so i does not let me to get in any account ...

i still can enter any account in text mode (shell mode) ...

i did another fsck and more errors ...
i dont know what to do ... and i have lot's of stuff to be saved.
Part of that stuff is in a samba dir i will try to save that ... but the rest is important also...

Can someone help me please?

Thanks
Spooky

From a text-mode login as "root" try this:
Code:
 mount -o remount,rw /
If you are getting fsck errors, it may be time to back up any data that is of value to you, as the drive may be going bad.

sometimes in booting the kernel it displays this:
JBD: bad block at offset 2225
EXT3-fs : error loading journal.
mount : error 22 mounting ext3
ERROR opening /dev/console!!!!: 2
error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 0
error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 1
error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 2
switchroot: mount failed: 22
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

... next boot it starts a automatic fsck and then goes to that login that never let's me in because of the read-only

please help ! i just need to retreave the data and next i'll do is a format :P

Can you use the install disc for recovery?
How about trying a Knoppix LiveCD they are always bragging
on how it can save Windows files should be able
to recover Linux files one would think.

Yes, you can boot up the FC4 install CD at the Boot Options screen type: "linux rescue" and it will boot up, search for the previous install and mount it under "/mnt/sysimage/" then you can do what you want to try and fix it. You can do all that with Knoppix too, it just won't go and search out your previous install. You may also face an extra challenge using Knoppix because FC4 defaults to using LVM for the partitions which can add another layer of complication to doing your recovery. So "rescue" mode with the FC4 CD may be the easier choice if you went with the default of using LVM for the parititions.
