Hi all. I'm going to custom build a computer for Linux (and for fun). I'm getting all my products from Newegg. My main concern is of course compatability with Fedora Core.
I think this is going to be a good box. Not a super-computer, and yet not a budget computer either. My main reason is to have a good computer and to learn Linux, as well as play a few games on the way :P
Thanks a lot, now get ready for the barrage of links!
Note - The link to the Graphics card is currently identical to the CD/DVD. Since your mobo supports either and AGP or PCI video card, you'll want to be sure it's compatible with one of those (in other words, it cannot be a PCI Express card)
Overall the system looks pretty good, although I'm not so sure about your hard drive choice, as it looks like it's a SATA drive and it doesn't appear that your mobo supports SATA. I'm not using SATA myself and don't know that much about it, but I'd recommend you check that out before placing the order. There's nothing worse than finding out you can't connect a particular device because the connectors don't match. As an aside, the WD2500JB model has the right interface for the mobo and is comparable to the proposed WD2500JS SATA model.
In any event, good luck with it and have fun with Linux
sry about the same link. that was my fault. Here is a name/model number. I am 100% open to change any aspect, but the generalities are 3ghz, 1gig RAM, 250+ gig HD, DVD/CD burner/reader, and a motherboard to put it all on. I am also on a $700 budget.
