I looked up the Hitachi model you gave and compared it with a Toshiba drive I recently purchased, either of which should work in your Vaio:

Hitachi HTS553225L: 250 GB, 5400 RPM SATA - $74.95
Toshiba MQ01ABD: 1TB, 5400 RPM SATA - $62.08

I used the Toshiba to replace an Hitachi 100GB drive - very happy!

But to answer your question, the WD drive should work, as should any 2.5 inch SATA drive.
