Well last week my friends windows crashed, Operating system not found error. So I sugested he use Knoppix to see if it was an OS failure or a hardware failure, and to see if he could recover anything. Knoppix boots fine and everything but when he trys to access his HD he gets an error message:
"mount: I could not determine the filesystem type, and none was specified"
If he was just running knoppix in memory i think all he could see is the ntfs filesystem but linux cant read that so thats probably why that message appears, In my experience when you get OS system not found all of a sudden that means the HD is history.
