I'm building a box to work as an entertainment system to capture tv and play dvd's, avi's and so forth. I need a decent video card with S-video out minimum and am looking to pick one up for cheap on ebay but I'm worried about Linux support.
I'm using Gentoo and have no problem with the onboard graphics chip. Anyone know of any cheap readily available graphics cards which may suit me or even point me in the direction where I might find information on graphics cards for linux?
NVidia chipsets have historically had some of the better support under linux. Considering your goal of a media center pc, you may also want to check the MythTV documentation for recommended cards, even if you do not plan to use MythTV. (They probably have a lot of experience with cards like the ones you have requested)
here's the list of compatibe cards from nvidia as of the last driver release. gives you a few to choose from.

Whoa, thanks a bunch. Was intending to look at my options but MythTV was initially my main option so I may look at what they recommend but thanks for the list, it will come in very handy when browsing ebay!!!!
