You don't give much information you know. If you could give us the specs of more than just the cpu and motherboard we may be able to help you quicker and more efficiently.
So, how much RAM do you have?
what is your hard drive?
What version of Ubuntu?
Did you install it or are you trying to run it as a live system?
Where does it "hang up"? what part of the boot process?
Have you tried recovery mode at the GRUB screen? What happens if you go into recovery mode at the GRUB screen? can you go further?
These are just a few questions you could have easily provided answers to in your first post. Please give as much information as you possibly can.
Gah....Changing from AHCI to IDE mode cripples your HDD performance.
Obviously fatmacs "are you set to boot from the optical drive' idea isnt a problem (@ fatmac stil a worthwhile suggestion to check)
TobiSGDs 'are you using UEFI or legacy mode' could still have some impact on your ACHI problem, that and k3lt01s "Where does it "hang up"? what part of the boot process?" (and other questions) would still be worth answering, if only to help us help other users in the future.
But I wouldnt be suprised if you are using an obsolete version of ubuntu....
Gah....Changing from AHCI to IDE mode cripples your HDD performance.
If I read the last post from the OP in the right way, he changed to AHCI from IDE. As I understand it the Linux kernel (Windows, too, IIRC) has a generic AHCI driver that works with every disk-controller that is set to AHCI. So may be a driver for the IDE mode on this chipset was missing in the kernel (although I would think that is not very likely with a generic Ubuntu kernel).
