ghost partition

i have a 'ghost partition' marked as unused space, the output of pdisk is as follows:
(minus the#s and what follows)

Partition map (with 512 byte blocks) on '/dev/hde'

#: type name length base ( size )

1: Apple_partition_map Apple 63 @ 1

2: Apple_Driver43*Macintosh 54 @ 64

3: Apple_Driver43*Macintosh 74 @ 118

4: Apple_Driver_ATA*Macintosh 54 @ 192

5: Apple_Driver_ATA*Macintosh 74 @ 246

6: Apple_FWDriver Macintosh 200 @ 320

7: Apple_Driver_IOKit Macintosh 512 @ 520

8: Apple_Patches Patch Partition 512 @ 1032

9: Apple_HFS "Beau's mac" 4194304 @ 1544 ( 2.0G)

10: Apple_UNIX_SVR2 root 8489832 @ 4195848 ( 4.0G)

11: Apple_Free Extra 38056956 @ 12685680 ( 18.1G) $ what is this?

Device block size=512, Number of Blocks=12685679 (6.0G) $pdisk reports that the drive is only 6G, which is true

DeviceType=0x0, DeviceId=0x0

Drivers-

1: 23 @ 64, type=0x1

2: 36 @ 118, type=0xffff

3: 21 @ 192, type=0x701

4: 34 @ 246, type=0xf8ff

but the hard drive is only 6GB as is even noted by pdisk itself, so where is this so called 18G of free space coming from? Is this a hardware or a software glitch? how do i fix it so that does not show up and tempt me to try and use it, which would probably screw things up royaly?

i am running Yellowdog linux on a 1998 series powerbook G3

the hd in question is a 6GB removable by VST

HELP!!!

My guess is (as it must be a guess, because I've never used any Macs) that it may just be showing the possible space that ican be seen by driver. It looks lik ethis, because it shows right number of blocks.
I think thet it will be impossible to write anthing on this.
